Charity was a definite winner during the year in office of our husband-and-wife Captains Neil and Jill Elks.
The couple nominated Cancer Research UK as the beneficiary during 2025-26 when they fulfilled the roles of Club Captain and Captain of the Ladies’ Section.
The cause is one which is close to their hearts after Jill overcame cancer following treatment a few years ago.
And club members were very generous in the support of a host of fund-raisers staged during their year in office, to raise £9,659.98. The total was topped up following a sponsored swim by fellow golf club member and immediate Past Ladies’ Captain, Carol Dunphy, which netted a further £758.75.
It meant the total presented to representatives of Cancer Research UK was an impressive £10,418.73.

Congratulations to our incoming Captain’s for 2026 who began their time in post with the traditional drive-in event.
Club Captain Alan Tayor, Ladies Section Captain Gina Taylor, Junior Captain Charlie Burnham and Senior Section Captain Tim Roberts hit ceremonial drives to launch their years in post in front of a large crowd.
They took over from 2025 Captains Neil Elks, Jill Elks, Olivia Barker-Sabido and Norman Shaw who drove out their year.
The event was followed by a shotgun start scramble event and a packed clubhouse gathering.
We wish all of our Captains a fabulous year in post.

Our incoming Captain Alan Taylor gave a speech packed with pride and emotion as he took over from out-going skipper Neil Elks ahead of the 2026-27 season.
And, for the second year running, our Captain and Ladies’ Section Captains will be a husband-and-wife team after Alan and wife Gina took over from Neil and Jill.
There were lovely words from Bill Preston, a past Captain and member of over 40 years, as he took over as President from David Cromwell.
And Nigel King spoke of his pride as he became Vice-Captain for 2026/27 and Captain for 2027/28.
We’re a club which is constantly working to improve and modernise whilst, at the same time, remain very proud of the heritage and tradition built during our 129-year existence.
Congratulation to those who stepped into honorary positions with the support of the club’s members last night.
