  • Leading magazine spotlights our course

We know our 8th hole is a stunner – and it seems a leading golf publication agrees!

Golf Monthly is running a feature on ‘drop holes’ in its May edition.

And they’ve chosen our own Hole 8, 148-yard ‘Gorsy Knoll’, as one of just five holes from across the UK to feature.

  • European Tour ace Robert Rock joins our club

We’re delighted to welcome two-time European Tour winning professional Robert Rock into the golf club’s membership.

Robert has recently moved to live in the town and he has accepted our offer to join the club’s membership ranks on a complimentary basis - agreeing to act as an ambassador and support sessions which will benefit members in return.

Robert is perhaps most famous for his victory in the 2012 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship where he beat a stellar field including Rory McIlroy who finished second and Tiger Woods, tied third.

It came just a year after Robert won his maiden European Tour title at the BMW Italian Open in Turin.

In 2009 he famously picked up the €500,000 Irish Open first prize after being beaten by Shane Lowry in a play-off, with Lowry’s then amateur status meaning he didn’t qualify for the victor’s prize.

Despite now concentrating his time on coaching through the Robert Rock Academy and running the Robert Rock Junior Tour, he is still capable of playing the highest quality golf. This was demonstrated when he qualified for last year’s US Open and fired one of the lowest rounds of the opening day at the fearsome Pinehurst No 2 course.

Robert said: “We’ve brought a number of events to Chesterfield Golf Club in recent times – both as part of our junior tour and to raise funds for Chesterfield Football Club’s academy.

“We’ve always been made very welcome and have been impressed with the golf course, which is a great layout and consistently well presented.

“Since spending more time in the area, I’ve enjoyed playing the course a number of times and I am grateful for the hospitality received.

“I’m delighted to form a more formal link with the club. My schedule means I’ll only be able to get up to play the odd game but it will be great to practice. I will be pleased to support the club through member events.”

Over the summer months Robert has agreed to run a members’ evening where he will share stories of his career and answer member questions.

It is also planned to run a coaching clinic for members where Robert will share his knowledge.

And Robert has agreed to help support the club through promotional material.

  • County Captaincy honour for our Mel

Congratulations to our own Mel Davey who has been appointed Derbyshire Ladies’ Captain for 2025-2026.

It is a great honour for Mel who joined our club five years ago having moved back to the area from Staffordshire, where she had been a member of Beau Dessert Golf Club.

Mel was relatively late to golf – only seriously picking up her clubs at the age of 43 after playing hockey at county, regional and national league level.

Her initial handicap of 36 quickly tumbled to 15 after a couple of seasons and fell further after lessons with Alison Nicholas MBE, former Solheim Cup player and Captain.

Mel now plays off a handicap index of 4.7 and has enjoyed great success since moving back to Derbyshire – including playing alongside CGC’s rising star Eva Myers to lift the County Scratch Cup.

Mel said: “Derbyshire County Golf have been incredibly welcoming. I’ve certainly made some friends for life.

“I was delighted and honoured to be asked to be Captain for 2025, something I’m incredibly proud off. I’m really looking  forwards to my Captain’s year.”

Have a great year Mel. You’ve made your club proud.

  • Top trio represent club in national final

Well played indeed to three of our members who won through to the England Golf Champion Club Finals.

Mel Davey, Kelly-Ann Thring and Gabrielle Auld represented our club in the finals at Hessle GC, near Hull, having qualified by winning the Scratch Cup at the Derbyshire Ladies County Championships earlier in the year.

At Hessle, the trio played well – finishing in a respectable 16th place when competing against rivals from across the country.
