Below is an extract from the England Golf website explaining the competition.
Clubs affiliated to England Golf are invited to run qualifying competitions for….
The R&A’s 9-Hole Challenge – and give their members a chance of playing in the final at Royal Portrush.
All clubs have to do is hold a 9-hole qualifying competition before Friday, 7 June. The scores of the top two players will be added together to give a team score.
The leading nine pairs in England will qualify for the final, which will be played on Saturday 13 July 2019, on the eve of The Open.
Their fellow competitors will be pairs from the other home countries and from Australia, this will be the third time the Challenge has taken place and so far, it has been won by English players.
The R&A will pay for the finalists’ travel and accommodation on the night of Friday 12 July, where there will be a dinner for the players. After play on Saturday there will be a closing lunch and presentation of prizes.
This is a great opportunity to qualify and play Royal Portrush on the eve of The Open and so Chesterfield Golf Club is running a qualifying competition on Tuesday, 4th June.
The competition is an any gender stableford handicap qualifier and is open to anyone with an active competition handicap.
No pre-booking is necessary just turn-up on the day, sign-in to the competition using the competition terminals and play the front 9-holes, on completion of your round enter your score onto the competition terminals.

For 9-Hole competitions, CONGU defines a formula in Clause 22.3 for how competition handicaps should be calculated considering the SSS and Par of the 9-Hole course. This may adjust your handicap for the competition, please see the table attached. The system will adjust your handicap accordingly when calculating your score, but you should be aware of your 9-Hole handicap when playing the competition.
9-Hole Handicap Table will also be put on the locker room notice boards for reference.
9-Hole Certificate of SSS for Chesterfield Golf Club issued by England Golf which hopefully will clarify any 9-Hole SSS or Par queries you may have.
