As I’m now getting into the swing of being your Captain, golf is coming to the fore having now played a Captains’ mixed and Capt./ Professional charity challenges, both of which were most enjoyable events, contributing to our charities.
However in golf terms not so successful, losing both matches to some excellent golf played by our challengers. Better news however to report with the first Captain’s Friendly that was played away on Sunday against Chevin GC and it was pleasing to see that both teams consisted of a cross section of the membership ranging from junior to vets.
Chevin’s course was in very good condition and I renamed “Tribulation” as “Defibrillation”, with the climb down and back from the right hand rough. Despite this we received a very friendly welcome and the match was played in the best of spirit.
Afterwards, we all sat down to an excellent meal of Chicken Pie, veg and chips followed by apple and blackberry crumble with lashings of custard, rounding off what was an excellent match played in the true spirit of the fixtures and finishing with a 3 – 3 draw.
Thank you to all those who took part for your support and helping to make the day a memorable and very enjoyable one.
