Course Manager Report - 28th August

Welcome to my course report at Chesterfield Golf Club. I would like to start by passing on my praise and thanks to the Green staff who have done a fantastic job maintaining the course during maintenance week and during some fairly adverse weather conditions recently.

Work has started on the bunkers by regularly moving sand around from the back of the bunkers. We have ordered a bunker rake sieve so that we can start to begin removing the stones. Unfortunately the recent storms have put our efforts back a few steps but they have also highlighted areas that require attention.
Recovery from maintenance week has gone extremely well and because we raised the height of cut I am happy to say the greens are now back to their best. Because of the success of the recovery we have been able to lower of height of cut on the greens from 4mm to 3.5mm. Thank you for your patience and co-operation during this time.
The STRI (Sports Turf Research Institute) came in on Wednesday 25th for our annual assessment and I am pleased to tell you that considering the amount of rain that we received overnight they were very impressed with the putting surfaces we have produced and the soil analysis is amongst some of the best in the country.
As you will be aware we have started cutting down the deep rough and the aim is to get it all cut before winter. We are in the process of producing a winter program of work and as many of you are aware drainage is usually high on the list however I wish to see where the problem areas are before I commit to work. We will be undertaking the usual autumn/winter work that includes verti-draining fairways.
Many thanks,

Nick Miles, Course Manager

Derbyshire Amateur Championship

Congratulations to all our players in the Derbyshire Amateur Championship played at our Club on the 14th June. Darren Coop played really well with scores of 71 & 73 and was only beaten into second place by James Booth of Shirland with 70 & 73. Other notable scores from our members were a 70 from Liam Sinnott and a 71 from Jamie Booth. These scores helped Chesterfield to win the Team Challenge Shield and our team will now represent Derbyshire in the England Golf Champion Club Tournament in September at Brancepeth Castle. We wish them the best of form and a little luck to help bring back the Champion Club title.

Derbyshire Alliance

Congratulations to Shane Naisbett and Chris Gartland on their win in the team event of the Derbyshire Alliance Competition held at Matlock. Their winning score was 45 points, pipping a home club pair on countback.
Shane also finished runner-up in the Pro’s event with a score of 70, despite a double and three single bogeys.

The prestigious Derbyshire Alliance Golf Day took place at Chesterfield on Wednesday 20th May.
To the delight of all including the Green Staff, the weather ended up being kind,  enabling the course to be presented to the best possible standard.
Those taking part, particularly visiting Professionals, were extremely complementary about the condition of the course and the hospitality received. See results here.
