Course Status
The golf course is really looking a picture now. Consistent growth is just about there and the areas worked upon through the winter are filling in nicely. The rain we are watching through the window at the moment is really welcome and will help speed up the growth.
We know the greens are somewhat ‘firm’ but, unfortunately, that hasn’t lessened the number of pitch marks being left unrepaired on them. Please remember to repair your pitch-mark.
A number of members have asked about the debris behind the first tee. This is still a work-in-progress that will be completed as soon as possible.
A few weeks ago, the golf course received spring fertiliser to all closely mown areas and we are now really seeing the benefits. The spring flush of growth we always hope for is now here. Considering how dry it was after the snow melted this is quite remarkable.
Our cutting regimes are now in full swing and the course is really starting to look green and stripy. The greens are now mown at their summer height and have really come through a difficult spring period very well.
This Spring really shows the benefit of working round the weather and taking opportunities when the conditions permit. The hollow coring we carried out in the first week in March means any topdressings and aeration we now do will only be conducive to summer play
The tidying around the course is now close to completion for another year with wildflowers being sown.
All in all the course is in great condition for the time of year and after the difficult spring we have seen.
As we are coming out of winter and the course is beginning to grow a request from the Green Committee. Would members please note that soft, spikes in golf shoes are the preferred option..
Congratulations to Mark and all his team for their excellent work over Autumn and Winter, despite the weather.
