Course Report - Late Spring Programme

This month has continued very much like the last couple with a period of reasonable weather followed by a heavy spell of rain. Fortunately, with a combination of good aeration and a good wetting agent the greens have stood up to this unusual weather pattern. Grass growth has finally arrived and hopefully we can continue to
stay on top of it as well as doing the day to day work. The higher temperatures should also give us an opportunity to start repairing the worn areas from the winter play.
We have been able to aerate and top dress the greens this week, 8mm micro-tines and followed by a medium top dressing. Roughly, this year we have applied 50 tonnes of dressing. Ideally this is something I would like to repeat on a monthly basis. I am very happy with how the course is progressing, the alterations to the approaches have worked very well and I like how all the Par 3 holes stand out with the hand cut perimeter. Similarly, the 1st cut approach areas on the Par 3 holes appear to blend in very well. We shall be looking at lowering the fairway mower height this week to hopefully get a slightly tighter and more defined finish.

Nick Miles, Course Manager

English Club Championship

Chesterfield’s winning team in the Derbyshire Amateur Championship was chosen to represent Derbyshire in this event which was played over 36 holes over two days at the Brancepeth Castle Golf Club, Durham. Our team of Darren Coop, Liam Sinnott and Jamie Booth played some very good golf through the green but encountered some difficulty in reading the greens. We finished in the top half of a large field—a creditable performance. The team was well supported by their families and Chesterfield Members.

Derbyshire Amateur Championship

Congratulations to all our players in the Derbyshire Amateur Championship played at our Club on the 14th June. Darren Coop played really well with scores of 71 & 73 and was only beaten into second place by James Booth of Shirland with 70 & 73. Other notable scores from our members were a 70 from Liam Sinnott and a 71 from Jamie Booth. These scores helped Chesterfield to win the Team Challenge Shield and our team will now represent Derbyshire in the England Golf Champion Club Tournament in September at Brancepeth Castle. We wish them the best of form and a little luck to help bring back the Champion Club title.

Derbyshire Knockout

Our Division one team played their first round match at home on Sunday 17th April against Chevin Golf Club.
Darren Coop and Peter Howitt finished 6 up after 18 holes and Liam Sinnott partnering Curtis Wilson finished 3 up. This was a great start to the competition and we wait to see who will be our next opponents in the next round.
