Course Report - Spring Programme

Spring showed itself on Wednesday 13th April and I thought we had possibly turned a corner in the weather, how wrong was I! This was followed by enough rain on Thursday morning to close the course. Thankfully the course has taken it very well and we have been able to get out and do some more cutting and reshaping. I have already started dropping the mowing heights on the tees, fairways and approaches to get a tighter sward density and better playing surface. I know I am always commenting on this but can I please remind everyone to repair their pitch marks, replace divots on fairways and where provided use the divot bins on the tees. I am aware that the birds are pulling out the divots on the fairways looking for worms and grubs but if you are walking past please replace them. Weather permitting, we shall be applying a light topdressing as well as a wetting agent and liquid feed to the greens shortly. Please check the course information for up to date notice.

Nick Miles, Course Manager

Members please note:

Now we are not using our mats please remember to replace your divots on the fairways and also to repair you pitch marks on the greens and if you have been in a bunker please rake it and put the rake back on the edge.
Please take your own rubbish home and pick up any you see and put it in the appropriate bin.

Thank you.

English Club Championship

Chesterfield’s winning team in the Derbyshire Amateur Championship was chosen to represent Derbyshire in this event which was played over 36 holes over two days at the Brancepeth Castle Golf Club, Durham. Our team of Darren Coop, Liam Sinnott and Jamie Booth played some very good golf through the green but encountered some difficulty in reading the greens. We finished in the top half of a large field—a creditable performance. The team was well supported by their families and Chesterfield Members.

Derbyshire Amateur Championship

Congratulations to all our players in the Derbyshire Amateur Championship played at our Club on the 14th June. Darren Coop played really well with scores of 71 & 73 and was only beaten into second place by James Booth of Shirland with 70 & 73. Other notable scores from our members were a 70 from Liam Sinnott and a 71 from Jamie Booth. These scores helped Chesterfield to win the Team Challenge Shield and our team will now represent Derbyshire in the England Golf Champion Club Tournament in September at Brancepeth Castle. We wish them the best of form and a little luck to help bring back the Champion Club title.

Derbyshire Knockout

Our Division one team played their first round match at home on Sunday 17th April against Chevin Golf Club.
Darren Coop and Peter Howitt finished 6 up after 18 holes and Liam Sinnott partnering Curtis Wilson finished 3 up. This was a great start to the competition and we wait to see who will be our next opponents in the next round.

Derbyshire Alliance

Congratulations to Shane Naisbett and Chris Gartland on their win in the team event of the Derbyshire Alliance Competition held at Matlock. Their winning score was 45 points, pipping a home club pair on countback.
Shane also finished runner-up in the Pro’s event with a score of 70, despite a double and three single bogeys.

The prestigious Derbyshire Alliance Golf Day took place at Chesterfield on Wednesday 20th May.
To the delight of all including the Green Staff, the weather ended up being kind,  enabling the course to be presented to the best possible standard.
Those taking part, particularly visiting Professionals, were extremely complementary about the condition of the course and the hospitality received. See results here.
