Course Manager Report - October

As we come to the close of the competitive season at Chesterfield Golf Club I am sure you will all agree that the course is in fantastic condition for October and apart from the leaves I am really happy with the situation going into winter.
We have been able to apply 2 light top-dressings recently which have helped to smooth out the surface after a small out-break of disease. As you will be aware we have been test driving some tractors re-cently and were able to verti-drain all the tees and approaches. Hopefully we will be able to make a decision on which tractor will be best suited to our needs very soon.
Holes will be going into the winter greens next week and I am pleased to see that everyone is taking relief from them. I am planning on pencil tining the greens next week to get some well needed air into them. The winter program of work is cur-rently being planned and as soon as it is finalised we will publish it.
Some of you may be aware that one of my staff members was hit by a ball a few weeks ago. I would like to take this oppor-tunity to remind all members, member’s guests and visitors that greenstaff have priority on the course at all times and until you see the greenkeeper signal you to play you must wait to do so. I would also like to thank all the members who have made themselves known to me and the kind words from you all.
I have recently noticed an increase in pitch-marks on the greens so can I please ask all golfers to try and repair as many as possible during your round?

English Club Championship

Chesterfield’s winning team in the Derbyshire Amateur Championship was chosen to represent Derbyshire in this event which was played over 36 holes over two days at the Brancepeth Castle Golf Club, Durham. Our team of Darren Coop, Liam Sinnott and Jamie Booth played some very good golf through the green but encountered some difficulty in reading the greens. We finished in the top half of a large field—a creditable performance. The team was well supported by their families and Chesterfield Members.

Derbyshire Amateur Championship

Congratulations to all our players in the Derbyshire Amateur Championship played at our Club on the 14th June. Darren Coop played really well with scores of 71 & 73 and was only beaten into second place by James Booth of Shirland with 70 & 73. Other notable scores from our members were a 70 from Liam Sinnott and a 71 from Jamie Booth. These scores helped Chesterfield to win the Team Challenge Shield and our team will now represent Derbyshire in the England Golf Champion Club Tournament in September at Brancepeth Castle. We wish them the best of form and a little luck to help bring back the Champion Club title.

Derbyshire Matchplay Final

The Final was played over the Chevin course on Sunday, 11 October and Chester-field members Liam Sinnott and Darren Coop both played very well. Liam was beaten by James Booth (Shirland) in the semi-final and Darren lost to James on the final hole of an exciting final.

Derbyshire Alliance

Congratulations to Shane Naisbett and Chris Gartland on their win in the team event of the Derbyshire Alliance Competition held at Matlock. Their winning score was 45 points, pipping a home club pair on countback.
Shane also finished runner-up in the Pro’s event with a score of 70, despite a double and three single bogeys.

The prestigious Derbyshire Alliance Golf Day took place at Chesterfield on Wednesday 20th May.
To the delight of all including the Green Staff, the weather ended up being kind,  enabling the course to be presented to the best possible standard.
Those taking part, particularly visiting Professionals, were extremely complementary about the condition of the course and the hospitality received. See results here.
